Biography
Brewn' is a 5 piece BBQ rock band based in Canberra, Australia.
We have been influenced by classic musical acts such as Johnny Cash, CCR, Brad Paisley, Cold Chisel, AC/DC, Guns N Roses, Bon Jovi and many others. This cross section of musical inspiration has given us a unique BBQ rock sound that tells the story and drives it home. Our eclectic musical interests have created our unique style (quirky Australiana BBQ rock). We pride ourselves on being a family-friendly band.
Our Story
Twelve months ago, only two members of Canberra based five piece band Brewn’ took the band's original tracks to the streets of Tamworth, busking along the town’s famed Peel Street. Fast forward to January 2011 and the entire band returned to the Tamworth Country Music Festival with a jam-packed schedule including eight band performances, media appearances, the launch of “Heaven”, their 3D video clip (a first for an Australian Country Music act) and the official launch of their debut album, “Rusted On”.
Their 14-track album features eleven Brewn’ originals, two penned by Eunice Brady (the grandmother of the lead vocalist Mick's wife) and one bonus track – a fun song born out of a rehearsal mishap. Previously released singles, “Lazy” and “Heaven” from the 2010 EP, “Bear Country Road” are also included on this album release.
The 2010 EP proved to be a triple hit for Brewn’ when in November last year they were presented with three awards at the Canberra Country Music Festival. “Bear Country Road” was named Best EP & producer Steve Newton was presented with the Best Production Award as part of the Competitive Awards in the Regional Country Music Awards. Also, “Lazy”, the first single to be lifted from the EP, won in the category of Country Rock (Australian Professional) at the Federation Song Awards.
“Rusted On” tracks include, “Free” which was written by lead vocalist Mick at home on the guitar, remembering his younger years when he had nothing to worry about other than girls and cars, a far cry from the now happily married father of five. And the next single, “Bollywood Cowboy” was written in one night during a band rehearsal with each member involved, giving it the Brewn’ stamp. "The Brown Snake" and "Who We Are", the two tracks written by Eunice Brady, allow Brewn’ to perform true Aussie Bush Country alongside the more modern Country Rock sound that they are known for.
The idea of Brewn’ began when Mick and Scott were in a cover band and they discovered a mutual love of music and song-writing. Realising their humble idea had outgrown the scope of an acoustic duo they began to seek like-minded musicians to create a fully-rounded musical experience. Deciding on a full band, they called upon long time friends John and Anthony. Musically gifted twin brothers, they were the perfect fit. As the band developed, there was still one element missing, a talented bass player to complement John's groove. Zach, the newest member, was recruited and thus Brewn’ was born.
Today Brewn’ is made up of:
Mick (Lead vocals/rhythm guitar)
Scott (Lead/backing vocals/rhythm guitar)
Anthony (Lead guitar/backing vocals)
John (Drums/backing vocals)
Zach (Bass/backing vocals).
Mick says, “The last twelve months have been a lot of hard work but also the best of my music career. We started out busking in Tamworth 2010 and by Tamworth 2011 we had released an EP and an album. To finally release this album, “Rusted On”, is the greatest accomplishment. I have been wanting this for as long as I remember. I left all this behind me when I was younger to raise a family and work my day job. As life went on the opportunity arose with the guys I am working with, whom you all know as Brewn’, and with the support of my family I have grabbed it with both hands.”
“Rusted On” is an independent release and out now
